FAQs

How to cook hamburger meat without frying? ›

Boiling ground beef is the best way to cook it so that it comes out in small, fine crumbles. Trust me, this is the secret to all those amazing tacos and pasta sauces at your favorite restaurant! It's also a healthier option, because the boiling process helps separate the fat from the meat, and it comes out quite lean.

How do you blanch broccoli? ›

To blanch the broccoli, bring a pan of water to the boil. Have a bowl of iced water ready, along with a tray lined with kitchen paper. Cook the broccoli in the boiling water for 2-3 mins. Remove the broccoli with a slotted spoon and plunge into the bowl of iced water, then leave for another 2-3 mins.

How do you add flavor to ground beef? ›

Add herbs and spices: Mix in dried herbs and spices such as cumin, chili powder, garlic powder, and onion powder to give your ground beef a bolder flavor.

Can you cook ground beef on a skillet without oil? ›

If you're using a nonstick pan you don't have to use oil (unless you're using extra-lean ground beef). Cast iron and stainless steel are the best choices for getting that beautiful, brown sear. Once the pan is hot, add the meat, and use a spatula to break it up into pieces.

Should you blanch broccoli before frying? ›

In this masterclass on how to stir fry broccoli, my dad shares two essential tips for keeping the broccoli nice and crisp. First, blanch the florets! This not only softens the stems, but also stops the enzyme that leads to browning.

What happens if you don't blanch broccoli? ›

If you don't blanch your broccoli, it will turn color and acquire a bitter taste. You can either stick it in boiling water for three minutes to blanch, or steam it for five minutes, whichever you choose.

How long to blanch broccoli before cooking? ›

Fill a large bowl with cold water and ice. Carefully lower the broccoli florets into the boiling water and cook for 2 to 3 minutes. The broccoli should be bright green and just barely tender. With a slotted spoon, remove the broccoli and immediately plunge into the ice water.

How do you cook meat without frying it? ›

Grilling or roasting is a fantastic way to cook meat without relying on added fats. Place your meat on a preheated grill or in a hot oven, and let the dry heat work its magic. You can also baste the meat with marinades, broths, or wines to keep it moist and flavorful.

Can you cook ground beef in a regular pan? ›

It's important to use a nice big pan. You can use a non-stick pan but it won't brown the meat as well. I prefer stainless steel or a cast iron skillet because it gives a better crust to the meat than non-stick does. Using a thick heavy pan is ideal for this since it cooks more evenly as well.
